I agree, I work for GM and we see it all the time that people don't want to take responsibility for their actions. I work for the Product Litigation group and it is amazing how many dumb people there are all blaming GM for their mistakes. If you don't where a seatbelt and get ejected in a crash it is your fault. People always try to put the blame on somebody else when they make a mistake.

Too often anymore the Companies are taken to court on a bogus suit to only get a settlement because it is cheaper to pay a settlement vs the legal fees to win it. Many of the laywers know this and prey on the companies. Tort reform needs to come here. If you lose the case you pay the legal fees for all.

GM lost one here because a guy hit a tree and burned to death in his S10 Blazer [no pun inteneded].

GM lost because they were not permitted to disclose to the jury that one the driver was legally drunk and two he was driving over 100 MPH.

The bottom line is you mess with it you fix it or pay for it no matter what it is.

The term Idiot proof was given to me by a Ford engineer in Collage. He said they fool proof things anymore they need to idiot proof as they will loose their shirts to many a bogus claim.

Anytime you modify a car there is no reason to expect a MFG to take care of it. If you race a car you break it you pay for it. Race cars have no warranties.

When you change any car from stock it is the owners place to take responsibility for his actions and stop they to pawn off things on the MFG.

The MFG spend a lot of money to idiot proof their cars and cover them with a good warranty. So if they take responsibility for their work why should they take responsibility for the guy who leaned out his engine with a bad programer or bad fuel pump with his NOS kit.

In this case GM at least offers a kit that is covered. Many of the parts from Ford Motorsport, Direct Connect and some GM performance parts are sold as is and will not only void the warranty on your car but will also not be covered under any warranty on the part .

Most in the performance aftermarket will only cover the part they sold you and that part only. If your Oil pump fails and wipes the engine they will give you a new pump and a pump only.

Companies may be protecting the bottom line but they also are protecting themselves from many dishonest customer. Society today teaches to lay the responsibility on someone else if you can get awayt with it. Very many do and the Honest people are becoming more and more rare.

Yes companies may do some dishonest things but they are far from being alone.
Your comparing bolting a supercharger on to a n/a engine or putting nos on a engine that never had it from the factory to upgrading the existing parts on a engine already equipped with those parts.

I'll take my licks with warranty denial since I chose to go after market tune, but you better damn well believe that if my car had GMS1 tune only and a after market intercooler or charge pipes and GM denied to fix my piston/engine because of it, there butt would be taken straight to court to prove it caused the problem and thus warranty denial.

I said it once and I'll say it again if it wasn't for recieving the GMS pricing for vehicles I would never own a new GM vehicle ever. The discount plus cash rebates are the only thing making it worth while to put up with there crappy build quality, reliability, customer service and reputation.

My point is if I have piston damage they will go looking for any aftermarket product to blame. I'm really not that concerned as i only have the GM upgrade. but lets say that I'm driving down the road and need to get towed in to the dealer. If I had a K&N filter that would give them reason to deny warranty coverage if there was piston damage.

Just like the 4t45e automatic. it is a weak tranny for the car. so if it blows up they can say they won't cover it due to abuse. in which i dont beat the crap out of my car. but how do i prove that?

What a bunch of cry babies !! Man-up to your responsibilities. I have EXTENSIVE changes that will void warranty on a very expensive GM car. I know it's my responsibility, if something happens to the drive train.

GM is NOT going to search for a reason and then deny warranty coverage UNLESS the modification/change/part actually caused the failure. And remember this process starts with the dealer who requests the coverage from GM for the warranty repair. IF the dealer improperly explains the problems to the Warranty Group, then you do have an additional compounded problem.

And those "alligators" on here......GM and their attorneys will tie you up for years in litigation.....and will subpoena and seize your vehicle, as evidence, for that period of time. GM Legal Staff is notorious for such activities.

My point is.....stop the fairy tales (GM stockholders...really!! GM has no stock or stockholders, YET) and do not worry about hypothetical non issues. Own up to your responsibility.

Man-Up was just the word I was thinking.

Anytime you change anything why should GM be responsible? I don't care what it is.

If you want a warranty leave it alone if you want to mod it then accept the responsibility.

there is a big difference to adding minor mods. new piping, cat-back
than to adding a bigger turbo, tuning the ECM.

you can get denied for anything. look at the folks having Skyline Transmission troubles with Nissan, everything is due to "abuse" for any type of failure.

whether you want 5 more hp or 50hp it is all the same in their book, they have the dollars and the first say in denying warranty coverage, and besides you really do not know what the true cause is. it may be a flaw in manufacturing process.

I can see getting denied if you swap out the turbo or install a crazy tune, but not for anything else that won't amount to massive HP increases.

Don't think even a simple mod like a catback is not with out it's possible issues. I have seen even companies like Flowmaster recall kits because they had kits that did not work and messed up some cars.

With the systems in place to make power in todays cars many times it takes little to throw them out and do a lot of damage.

Besides GM is not saving any money here. If they still covered the crap other caused they would just pass it alone in higher prices. I for one do not want to pay for someone else issues.

GM and other MFG give you an agreement to cover a vehicle as sold to you. You choose to make changes that agreement is not in place anylonger and can be voided if choose. They have not change anything but on the other hand the guy who made the changes has choosen to void the agreement as written.

To be fair also just because they say they will not cover modified vehicles is not to say they still may cover it. Many times even here we have seen GM still take care of many issues they legally did not have too. Often it is a call by the dealer.

So if you want full coverage and protection of the agreement then abide by it as it was given at the time of purchase. If you want to make the changes then accept the chance you may be rejected. The rules are simple and the ball is in your court. If you what the warranty leave it alone. If you waive your rights by not sticking to the original agreement then that is not GM nor any other MFG fault.

Only the owner can put themselves at risk at their own choosing.

So if you are not covered there is only one person to blaime. Accept the responsibility.

So, with all your ranting/rambling, what is your point. Your statement has NOTHING to do with mine.

And by the way, I WAS a GM stockholder also.........and I would venture to say, that I owned more shares and worth than any member of this forum. When I saw GM MANAGING themselves to the graveyard, I liquidated (several years prior to bankruptcy). That's part of being a responsible stockholder.
