so I don't get it... how can the automatic powertrain handle an upgrade when even the stock 260hp is supposedly too much?

They don't give you 290 at the stop light.

So then what's the point? My auto SS has plenty of freeway grunt, but only mediocre grunt from stop condition. How is this upgrade going to help?

They also didn't give you 260 at the stoplight on the stock tune. It's the cost of having the auto... they are a bit apprehensive of that transmission's ability to handle "abuse" before it gets a chance to start spinning (where some of the "abuse" is mitigated). The manual is subject to a similar reality... just not quite so soon as the auto.

At least you got an armrest.

That does come in handy.

This is easily fixed with HPT. I've found it easier to launch the car with the torque reduction a little more aggressive in 1st gear and eliminated in 2nd. If you totally eliminate all torque reduction in 1st gear it just sits there and spins the hell out of the right side tire.

I haven't looked at the stage tune yet, so I don't know if GM modified the torque reduction in the stage kit for the autos. I'll know soon enough once I get mine installed.
