OK, all. I realize I helped everyone get OT here... back to CAI, now, please.

Normally, I tend to agree with you just about everything you say, but I will quibble about the meth making a fueling problem worse. Straight meth can be used to make up for what a fuel system won't do on its own. I moderate the fueling section on the GTO board and people do it all the time.

That having been said, I wouldn't do it myself for a number of reasons.
1. A hiccup from a meth system can often mean a new engine if you need it to maintain a safe AFR.
2. Tuning a meth / gasoline mix is trickier that straight gas. You have to learn to think in terms of Lambda rather than AFR, as your stoich point is going to be way off of 14.7
3. As you stated, running fuel through the injectors is absolutely the correct way to go on a ported or DI setup. The air path may not be designed to handle atomized liquid properly, running the risk of puddling or uneven distribution.

On the other hand, doing anything with the E69 is uncharted territory for the most part, and substituting a different injector on a DI setup has got to be "interesting." I hope GM eventually takes their DI controllers back in house instead of subbing it out to the Germans.

For charge cooling and detonation insurance, I like an alky / water mix myself, as it has been proven to give the best balance between specific heat and ease of vaporization. I don't tune for it because I'm a Republican.

I'm spraying 30/70 meth/water in my SS now. I believe you were talking about straight methanol in lieu of gasoline. If so... you simply can't get the volume of fuel needed through the (current) system limitations. Methanol has half the BTUs by volume than 87 octane gasoline. So (skipping past some very complex formulas for simplicity's sake), you're going to have to flow approximately TWICE as much methanol through the injectors as gasoline. If I'm stuck at the 400-425hp range squirting gas because I can't get any more fuel through the injectors, switching to methanol sure isn't going to help when I'm only going to get half (again, not really half, but it's easier to speak in generalities here) as much energy out of methanol. I've just REDUCED my engine's performance capabilities by going to a more performance oriented fuel-- methanol.

There's no reason to even consider methanol until the fuel volume issue is cracked. At which point... for those moving beyond the street... yeehah!!

Given the economic climate, and tendencies toward focusing on core competencies, I suspect outsourcing will be the norm, not the exception. GM will become (as its forefathers were) an 'assembler of parts.' Probably not a bad business model, actually.

I will not hold that against you.

No, I wasn't talking about switching to meth, but rather adding meth spray to the existing gas coming through the injectors. That can get you more fueling if you're willing to take the risk of a failed meth pump or clogged nozzle.

I'm very interested in how this project is progressing. Silly water invasion and endless fuel property discussions aside how is the piping coming along?

No progress. Been busy with day job and other things. It's on my list, though...

XXL, any progress with this?

I feel for you on the water discussion part. I used to install shakers on 98+ mustangs and people would always worry about water getting in and destroying their engine.

You are forgetting that this is like a vacuum cleaner it will suck any dust and water vapor up to the filter.
