Wow, that is fantastic Mr. A.! So glad to hear you were able to track down the prob yourself, that is always a good feeling isn't it?

Yes, I will have to check this connection myself. I haven't noted the problem myslef, but it is worth a look. If you can take a pic that would be great!

I want to install my new spring also, got it yesterday. Is that underneath that off-white colored cap on the passenger side of the turbo? The one with a few 10mm head bolts on it? I thought it may come with instructions, but I was wrong...

Thanks,
Didn't think of taking a pic, but if you open the hood and look at the right side of the intercooler (driver's side), you will see the stem of the T-bolt. You may be able to get your arm in there and feel the bolt, but on mine it was impossible to tighten from that direction, hence why I had to undo the bottom plastic pieces to get to it. This is another item that I should have checked long ago, but did not. And I am very happy it needed to be tighten, as I do feel that this was all or part of the reason why I lost the boost last night. I also did not hear the high pitched sound during the cold start-up earlier tonight and driving down the road for the test drive. So it may have been leaking also causing the noise, don't know for sure, just pure speculation right now.
Tomorrow more driving and maybe some minor testing if possible. Will keep you posted..........

today's update.....

all is well with the SS, the Mrs. & I did some errands today and the SS performed without a problem, I also noticed today when starting up this AM, there was not any high pitched sound driving down the road, tomorrow is the real test for that on the way to work. My wife was even impressed with today's drive, saying that it feels really strong. Glad to have the Boost back.

that is the cap in question, read my post on removal and installation in this thread,(https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/2-0l-performance-tech-46/new-bov-spring-installed-22589/) post #20 and another member took some pics of his install, post #67, just a PIA because of the location, but not impossible. have fun, let us know how you do......

today's update.....4/6/09

another productive ride to work this AM, as the SS was noise free with the high-piched whistling sound that was prevalent the last few months on cold start-ups. Tomorrow will be a true test, as the temps are only going to be in the high 20's or low 30's in the AM. I am very confident that the loose T-bolt on the IC/Intercooler was the problem.
What else can I say, other than the SS is running better than it did before, just repeating myself, but it bears repeating.

4/7/09....update

well my fix on the IC/Intercooler connection is confirmed. This AM it was around 33 degrees and cold with the wind blowing. on the way to work, no high-pitched sound at all with the cold weather. so it is now definite that there was indeed a loose connection that was the cause of the problem.
The SS lives on.......and so does the Turbo.....

Thanks for posting this. I'll take a look at this connection on my SS.

Thanks Tom, it did help to read more on that post regarding the spring install. Got mine in tonight without too much problems. Other than dropping one of the bolts down in the dead-zone behind the engine... I knew I should have dropped a sacrificial bolt or two down to feed the troll that lives in there before I got started!

It seems to work fine, although I don't feel much difference. It does sound different as you shift through the gears with fairly heavy throttle though. I think I am hearing more turbo/whistling noise (with my windows rolled down) so I really have to get that bottom panel off and check the other T-bolt connections you spoke of on the intercooler...

Clamp tightening

I was able to get to the intercooler clamps from the top with a 1/4" drive ratchet and an 11MM deep socket. It wasn't fun and I have the forearm scrapes to prove it.
I was having trouble with intermittent boost which started one week after the stage 1 install.
The first test drive was good, consistent boost. If it stays that way, I too will know it was the clamp(s).

no problem Carl, glad to be of service....again, you won't feel a major difference until you put your foot into somewhat....just remember to be safe when testing......

you have better arms than I do.... glad it is working out for you so far, I think we all should retighten our clamps at least once a month.....
