Not Too Impressed
I noticed today that rolling on in first gear at about 3/4 throttle felt really strong. I got to an isolated area and from a 10 mph roll went wide open on the throttle and it didn't seem quite as strong. At a 10 mph roll at 3/4 throttle it spins the tires thru 1st gear. At wide open throttl from a 10 mph roll only spins the tires a chirp or two. With and without traction control. I suppose this is ECU programmed protection for the engine. I thought the upgrade did away with torque limiting. I doubt that I could get the dealer to take a look at it. Everything else is flawless.
If they left the power on at the shift point it picks up a lot of performance but it also kills the tranny.
There was a program module for my GTP when it came out and it was not well sorted. It made the car fast but it killed trannys. They had to redo it so it would protect the tranny better.
The drivers that have noticed the most "bang for the buck", are all of us who drive the Auto. I have got to tell you that around 10HP per $100.00 is a great ratio, as the auto gets roughly 55-60HP from the upgrade, we start at 235! The increase is extreamly noticable. Also, like several other forum members, this is not the fastest car I've owned, but I am extreamly impressed with a somewhat gas sipping 2.0L 290+HP 4 Banger sleeper that Dad can tote kids around in. I think I would have to been castrated before I was going to drive a Mini-van, or an SUV offering within the SS's Price range.
THIS! But I had a Woody on for the HHR SS when I went in to buy a 2lt and saw a poster on the wall and decided to wait(I think I'm one of the hundreds of early owners @1/15/08, although I don't know if anyone took delivery before January, in 07. I have tried to research when our build #'s for the SS start and finish, but no one really cares to want to get that info. I think this would be helpfull to some of us owners that don't intend to part with it), and the gas milage and insurance wasn't close.
After having the upgrade installed for several weeks now, the boost pressure seems to be a little less irratic. At first it would spike to 21 psi in 2nd,3rd sometimes when rolling into the throttle from 2500 rpm. Rolling into the throttle at 3500 rpm it would only boost 18-19 psi. It pretty much seems to be limited to18 psi under all conditions now. About 4 psi more than stock. The outside temperature is in the 70's. It drives great other than I was hoping for a little more performance. The digital gage shows about 20 more Hp. It was 240 and now is 260. I doubt that it is calibrated but can be used as a reference. I do get good gas milage. Around town 27-28 mpg. I got 35 mpg on a trip.
I've had mine for a couple of weeks now and it seems pretty consistent. The boost does vary depending on the engine load (like slightly lugging it will only get about 19). I generally see 21-23 with a spike up to 24-25 but it comes back down once the PCM decides it's too much. I don't ever lug it in 5th. If the RPMs are under 2500 and I need more power, I drop to 4th. I could climb Donner Pass in 5th the whole way but I don't want to beat the engine up.
Mileage is pretty consistent too. 28 MPG average city/hwy (40/60) and 31-32 cruising at 70. It does drop pretty fast above 70. I would expect 80 to be in the 26-28 range. I haven't tried 60-65. I think the 5 spd helps too.

Ive heard nothing but awesome results for the Stage-1, especially for the A/T. Will be doing this at about christmas I hope. Stock still runs great. i still see alot of posts on the 2010 model being 250 HP? can anyone confirm this? great running car in any case!
