Stage 1 kit can go in Automatic. Really????
More Torque and More HP, is the chevy inside man when it comes to this kit. He has stated many times that the auto IS and WILL BE covered under warranty with this kit.
GM, like many companies, probably did a statistical analysis on the automatics abiltiy to handle the kit. Otherwise, they would have never allowed the auto's to use the kit. They give warranties on the kit and the main factory drivetrain warranty when installed. No limitations have been posted saying otherwise, so initial factory warrany is still valid with kit. With or without the kit, warranty has an abuse clause. That is the slippery slope to how the car is treated. You beat the car in any form and warranty is gone on failed part.

Thanks. I never had a questiono about whether it was covered under the warranty. But rather, what are the limits of that warranty with the Stage Kit installed. It would seem that the extra torque of the kit would allow you to put some incredible strain on the automatic transmission.
But the major question was how could the kit be okay for the AT when Chevy said they tuned down the stock engine because of concerns the AT couldn't handle the extra torque and power?

Doc with out going into to great detail what ever More_Torque_More_HP states on this site please understand he is as informed on this as anyone here and what he says is gold on the topic of the Turbo Upgrade. I think I am safe to say he knows more about it than anyone else. Note I don't just mean just on this web site either.
If he has time he may explain in more detail but he is a very busy man.
I would think GM has dialed things back at the shift points just as they have in many other high HP GM cars. The GXP GP is a well documented case where the computer keeps the tranny alive with millisecond changes in the engine power at the shift point.
Note GM also sells most of the factory cars with a Premium Recomended lable. This is to give the owner the choice over fuel. It will give GM a chance to sell cars to people who other wise would not buy because of the extra cost of fuel. I have had this conversation with a GM brand manager a couple years ago.
Seeing that this kit was also done later it was not ready when this car was introduced. The extra cost to get it emission approved in each vehicle are high and take time. Making it a kit afford evey year past to present to have it installed.
These are just my impressions on how and why. There are always many internal GM factors at play that could effect this too.
The bottom line is that the GM warranty for 5 years and 100,000 miles is their word they have this sorted out. You also may note the Torque ratings between the Kappa cars and even the auto and manuals are different. THey have taken the ability of each tranny in and set the proper torque that it could safely take.
Do not underestimate the GM driveline engineers. They are the best in the world. That was one reason BMW and other have always gone to them for things.
Thanks More_Torque_More_HP & HyperV for your reponses. That seems like a reasonable explanation and puts my mind at ease. I'll get the kit installed and enjoy the benefits to my wimpy AT. lol
On a side note. I used the competitive mode for the first time yesterday and Man did I notice a difference. I can't imagine how much quicker this thing will be with the kit installed.
I just have to see if the Chevy dealerships in the Memphis area will install it.
