We grabbed a big pair of Channel locks grab it twisted, BADA BING BADA BOOM it came off.. GM got some great glue on that thing.

There's a Tie wrap on the top of the boot snip it and the reverse lever theres a clip there put in a screwdriver and pop it off...

that is the standard shifter that comes with the SS kit, aluminum, lightweight, and yes, engraved with the H-pattern.

i just kept prying with the screwdrivers like the instructions say to. it's a slow and tough process, but it works. the channel locks mentioned seem like a good alternative.

One note for you folks in the cold climate. You'll need driving gloves in the morning. Once the aluminum knob cold soaks it will just about give you frost bite, even gets a bit chilly here in California. The stainless would be a little better since it has lower thermal conductivity, but a leather cover might be the ultimate way to go.

i know, lol. i was responding to Dr Loch. hence why i put it is the standard shifter that comes with the SS kit. those pictures are my shifter, that i just installed. i started this thread.
