I can't help that GM worded it that way, but you will not get any dealer to cover an accessory that was installed AFTER the purchase, to cover that accessory more than 12,000 miles or 12 months.
This line, "In the event GM Accessories are installed after vehicle delivery, or are replaced under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, they will be covered (parts and labor) for the balance of the applicable portion of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty, but in no event less than 12 months / 12,000 miles." says it clearly enough.

Why you are trying to imply an installed after the sale accessory only gets a 12K mile warranty is rather odd. That statement clearly says they will be covered for the BALANCE of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty or NO LESS then 12 months/K.

BTW - the service manager at the dealer I uses agrees with me on this particular issue when I stopped to see him today.

I guess it's neither here nor there since it seems their is something that covers this stage kit specifically but we'll have to wait till Monday to see that I guess.

You know I asked the same thing from my dealer and I was told that the Stage Kit will be covered for the duration of the vehicle warranty. I specifically asked since I recently purchased an 84 month extended warranty. They ordered my stage kit today and I am bringing it in for the brake fix on Wednesday and I am going to get my service manager to clarify and if he says that the kit is covered for my whole warranty I am getting that in writing.

These two scenario's should help clear the air on it based on everything I have read:

If you install the kit and have 5000 miles on it and owned it for a year, the warranty on those parts are until the car reaches 36000 miles or 3 years.

If you install the kit and have 35000 miles on it and had it for 2.5 years, you will have a warranty on those parts until 47000 miles or 3.5 years.

Extended warranty may be an interesting thing - guess it would depend on the language of the policy.

The "or", looks like to me, is just applicable to if it was replaced as an optional part, or it was faulty and covered under warranty

Bill, does that sound about right?

That sounds correct but if you have a 2007 or newer the powertrain is warranted to 5 years 100,000 miles and so is the stage kit

Dang Bill you only used #5 font when #7 was readily available to you.

I shot this question to my Chevrolet rep and without hesitation he stated if it's not installed at time of delivery the parts have a 12/12000 if dealer installed and 12 months if installed by a non GM dealer.

So I emailed the above information and the information I posted earlier to him and he then said "I'm not sure". So he contacted the powers to be in the warranty division in Detroit and they finally replied that these warranty procedures changed in 2007 edition of the the GM Policy and Procedures manual issued in October 2006.

So the warranty is exactly as Bill has stated it is.

I was wrong and I admit that. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused. I was going off information given to all dealers when the accessory stores were first opened in 2004. At that time they told us that the selling point to a customer for our sales department would be the longer warranty coverage if they bought the accessories when they bought the vehicle.

Again sorry for my incorrect information to all.

So did we ever come to a consensus on the extended warranty? Mines good to 120,000km on the car, would this be maintained with the kit installed?

I could be wrong but from what all I have read on this [I have been brushing up warranties since I was sent extended warranty] I believe it will be covered just as it is with the 5 year 100,000 warranty. One the kit is installed it is termed a GM installed drivetrain part. The stage kit is just considered part of the factory drivetrain.

The only things that I could see that would not be covered is if you did some self inflicted damage or did something racing.

Companies anymore are watching Autocross web sites and drag race results and will refuse a warranty if the car was used in any compitition.

The WRX guys have been getting nailed left and right.

Something to consider before Bagging about your best 1/4 mile run or showing the video of you last autocross meet on youtube.

The Big three are really hitting the Deisel guys too. The mod Pick ups are getting hit with no warranty often if they have mods.

Well I do AutoX, but not w/my HHRSS (only once really on a warmup lap).

I have a purpose built 87 MR2 Supercharged putting 166BHP to the wheels for that guilty pleasure. Amazing what an upgraded pulley and a megasquirt system can do. Stock BHP is 145. The thing scoots! though it gets quite expensive burning through the R-compound tires :S
