Advice on timing

Ok so im sure it's been asked and alot of my questions have been answered by searching but I was wondering if any one could tell me if any special tools are gonna be needed I'm sure a harmonic balancer puller but other than that. I'm a pretty good mechanic and have most tools and access to most others. Thanks btw it's a 2008 hhr panel with the 2.2

Hmm. Maybe you should add what kind of work, repair or maintenance you're doing.
All I see is "timing" in the subject.

I'll be replacing the chains, tensioners, and guides on both timing side and balance shafts as well as changing the water pump while I'm in there sorry for leaving that out

Harmonic balancer comes right off, no puller needed, maybe a love tap or 2. You will need a way to hold it while getting the bolt on/off. The spec for that bolt is 74 lb.ft. PLUS 125 degrees.

DONOT remove the balance shaft sprockets. If you must change them get new balance shafts.

You can change the sprockets on the balance shafts with out removing the shafts.

I guess we should throw the service manual away.

Isn't that referring to using the sprocket as a "handle" to facilitate removal of the shaft?

The only other reference to the sprockets I can find is the torque specs; 71 LB.FT. plus 30 degrees. So take it whatever way you read it.

To remove the balance shaft sprockets, you remove the retainer tab and use a drift to hold the sprocket from turning to remove the sprocket, do one at a time. And those are the correct torque values.
