The whole area in the fender acts as a big airbox. As for the filter I use a Spectre cone filter that is covered with a prefilter. You're right about the performance above 45,its pretty nice for 2.2

Wow, that's a great idea. I've never thought of doing that with any of my cars before that use an open element (that isn't placed where anyone can see it)

The mesh is so fine it usually does not let even fine sand through to an oiled filter. What works better than panty hose is some things they call knee-highs.
Ask your wife or girlfriend what they are if you don't know. You cut them to length from the top and tie a knot in the end you cut. Put the heavy part under the clamp that is used to hold your filter on. Buy black ones then you never have to explain what your prefilter is made from...lol. edit: I forgot to mention turn them wrong side out and make the knot then turn them back right side out and the end looks neat, no knot sticking out lookin trashey. And NO pink.

alright so it looks like you made your own extra air intake tube. so you have two of them routed toward the radiator. where are they sitting and how do you have them attached??

I was lucky enough to get this one awhile back! It was modified by Sleeper...Quite a good job if I say so.

Ok so Two more questions. The air tube that runs to the passenger fender, how do you disconnect it from the inside of the fender? Does it just snap in the hole?? And second can that tube be replaced with a different hose such as a metal one or does it need to stay the way it is?

Yeah, it just fits in that hole. You could replace it with just about whatever you wanted. (that can take the heat) The thing with the stock unit is, that material it's made of catches some larger junk, (leaf bits, bugs, whatever) acting somewhat like a "pre-filter".
