Before I reset the fuel content I ran a tank of ethanol free fuel and content didn't change . Stayed high through the entire tank. I was hoping to let the car adjust itself to a lower value but it apparently still thought at that time inwas running ff.

Did you check the fuel and vapor lines for holes? The frequent area of concern is under the insulation/clip in front of the driver side rear wheel. That can cause P0171/P0172 because of extra air in the purge vapor or low fuel pressure.
I don't put any faith in smoke tests, I never heard of one finding the leak. Eyes and fingers do a better job.
