Just finished my intake...

So, I just did the intake mod. Went for a 10 mile drive and seems good. Really didn't notice any power gains, but thats because I have been driving my 86 Ford F250 with a 460 this past week. Anyways, it was very easy, however I would suggest you feel very comfortable cutting the stock airbox. It's not just a simple strait through cut like cutting a 2.5" piece PVC pipe. Make sure you have dremel tools handy.

Give it 6 -7 key cycles or a couple of hundred miles for the ECM to adjust to the mod, then you should see a differance
Your'e right about the cut,it's a tricky one. The main thing is that you have enough tube on that side to clamp to.

Just got my parts the other day - Only ordered what parts I wanted from AirAid. Only took 15 minutes to put on - after I made the support bracket. The support bracket is made out of an old plastic license plate holder and I used the little rubber foot off the bottom of original air intake. Planning on making a little metal heat sheild for below it - but that's later after I see how this does first. If anyone wants the part numbers and the person I delt with - just let me know.

I like the looks of the main tube on that...... 2.5" to 3" flare? How long from the rubber to the filter?

I will have to measure that when I get home and post it tomorrow night after I get back into work. If you want the information sooner – send your e-mail address to me and I will let you as soon as I measure it.

Greaybeard999, To answer you question about the length of the Intake Tube. It measues 6-3/8" from air filter rubber flange to the rubber flange past the MAF sensor.

Thanks, man, I was thinking it was about 6" from looking at the photos, this verify's that.

I'd rather get one of these tubes than cut up the stock box. (got the part # from your other thread) and I like the way this flairs up to 3" smoothly. I'm hoping to go out the side with an intake by rotating the rubber elbow 90 degrees instead of on top of the motor like you are doing but haven't laid anything out yet...... thinking drivers side will give me a longer 3" straight section off of this tube then flex down to the fender well or through the radiator support....... Filter would be outside the engine compartment completely. I hope, anyways....

How does this sound compared to stock?

Sounds like a plan, but don't forget to order the 2 screws as well - you "will" need them to install the MAF sensor. I felt that it was easier to just buy the parts I wanted directly from the maker. Rather than spend over $200 and get parts I did not want. I just set mine up like it is for starter testing. I might change the direction and/or put the filter in the fender like you plan on doing. I have seen other photos were people have rotated the intake 90 degrees and done similar to what you are planning. Good luck and happy modifying.
