After reading all of the posts ive found out your running all of this on an automatic. At the top you really want to go with the automatic trans with no issues is 235 hp, this is why chevy down tuned the ss autos down to 235 because of the awful transmission that is in it. your going to want to put in an manual if you really want to see some power.

Last I checked the auto and manual both get the same power with the upgrade with no issues.

No that is incorrect, which is why gm has the manual set at 260 and the auto set at 235. The transmission in it is not built for excessive speeds or torque like for an example the new camaro. I my self know this because i have the auto, and any tune that you look at for an auto it is not as high as the manual

I do have the tune and I am at 290, just like the manual. Hope this helps you too.
Hello all!

I am the part owner of a 2006 HHR, my daughter is the daily driver. I also happen to be the design engineer for the Performance Upgrade Kit for HHR SS, Solstice GXP and Sky Redline.

Under full disclosure, I am an engineer that works on the Performance Powertrains for General Motors. I cannot answer questions regarding future product plans or GM proprietary information, so please do not ask. My name is Bill Duncan, Any opinions expressed in my posts are my own. I will try and answer any questions based on public knowledge or my own personal opinions.

I have joined this forum to pass along information about the performance upgrade kit that was released yesterday. Here is a copy of the press release:

Turbo Upgrade Kit for Solstice GXP, Sky Redline, HHR SS
(19212670) MSRP $650

The turbo upgrade kit for the Solstice GXP, Sky Redline, and HHR SS was designed by General Motors Engineers to get the most power possible out of the LNF Turbo engine. This kit will take your vehicle from 260 hp and 260 ft-lbs to 290 hp and as much as 340 ft-lbs of torque. All this power and you will still be able to retain your full factory warranty. This kit is also 50 states emissions legal. This kit is a quick an easy install that will not affect the driveability of your vehicle in any way, but will have plenty of extra power when called upon. Because of the different drivetrain combinations there are several different calibrations with slightly different power outputs. They are as follows:

•2007 & 2008 Solstice/Sky Manual 290 Hp @5200 rpm and 340 ft-lbs @3600
•2007 & 2008 Solstice Auto 290 Hp @5200 rpm and 325 ft-lbs @3600
•2008 HHR SS Manual and Auto 290 Hp @5200 rpm and 315 ft-lbs @4800

This kit will also be available for the 2008-2009 Cobalt SS and all other 2009 Turbo vehicles Q1 2009.

This kit is available for order and installation from any GM dealer.

Strange posting above

This individual is posting information that he says is new, yet appears to be the specifications for the current turbo upgrade. Furthermore, it applies to 2008 and earlier vehicles, and implies that the kit for 2009 WILL BE AVAILABLE in the first quarter of 2009. IN OTHER WORDS, THE FIRST QUARTER OF 2009 HASN'T HAPPENED YET.

Could someone please clarify why a person claims to be a GEM engineer yet posts "new" information that predates 2009? This makes no sense.

UPDATE - OK, I get it. The above is a repost from the past. That's why the dates are weird. Sorry to inject this into the turbo 2.4 thread and I will shut up now!

It's from other posts here. Do some research, nothing has changed.

Not sure what all this has to do with my 2.4 turbo except the comment about mine being an auto. I do realize that this tranny is limited, that is why I plan on changing it out/rebuilding. A switch to a manual is just way too much work and not worth it.

I was just trying to inform them the auto does get as much power as the manual. Since he was trying to say it can't.

Personally I think the auto tranny in the HHR is one of the best i've ever driven. Can't say if it will hold horsepower or not but I was impressed right away. The shifts are smooth when you're cruising and crisp when you stomp. It holds in gear when I want and downshifts are quick. In comparison my roomie has a 09 Imprezza with an auto and "sport manual mode" and that thing is a serious slushbox in comparison. I only wish it had LSD. :p Only time will tell if it is going to hold up for you but I don't think you're missing out on too much. I couldnt help but laugh once when I got into it with a guy in a VW and pulled away as he missed 2nd
