Ok, Its me again with another quasi-poll

When you first get in your HHR after it has sat overnight and/or several hours and has completely cooled down.....

Immediately upon starting the car, what is your coolant temp reading?

I checked mine today twice and it starts off at 70 degrees and climbs quickly to 130's on the way to 190's and fully warmed up. Seems very odd that it would be 70 sitting off overnight.

The reason I'm asking is someone posed the possibility of a coolant sensor being bad and possibly causing my ECM to weird out and go rich.

Thanks!

Don

He's asking about coolant temperature.

Mine's usually close to whatever the ambiant temperature is. I used it this winter to confirm whether the block heater was indeed only coming on below -18C, so it has to be accurate down to these temps.

Ex: With block heater plugged in @ -15C, the initial coolant temp would read -14 or -13. With block heater plugged in @ -22C, the initial coolant temp was around 0C, indicating that the heater had been on.

At full operating temp. the guage is just below the half mark and the DIC reading is between 85C to 95C. (You do the conversion )

Pretty much the same as mine. But at night it's in the garage and that is usually warmer than the outside air in the winter.
