Question Tuner options... ?

Hey... my wife's ride is an '07 HHR 2LT w/2.4L auto ('bout 34k miles on it). I've been reading for a couple of hours out here about tuner options. I've got an '04 Chevy Silverado HD w/Duramax diesel, and I use a DiabloSport Predator - well worth the $$$ on that baby.

But... it seems that DiabloSport has been dangling a carrot for the better part of a year for the HHR owners, which is a real shame. Knowing their equipment, I'd sure like to buy a Predator that would work with our HHR.

I've been trying to make heads or tails out of the alternatives. I'm not real clear on TuneTime, though if I understand, you send your ecm into them and they program it for you... ? I'm not nearly as far understanding what the HP tuners do either...

The deal here is that my wife is wanting better fuel economy. She's getting near 26 mpg now, but would really like to maximize it.

My quandry:
CAI - seem a waste of time since the factory system is effectively cold air.
Exhaust - not interested in increasing noise, just efficiency. Will changing exhaust really do anything beyond drain the bank account and make more noise?

What else to do? I was hoping for a simple boost with a tune... any recommendations - either with a tune or other mods?

As far as I'm concerned, driving habits make more difference that anything else you can do.

I have a Tune Time tune. Matt there is great to work with. I've had no problems at all. They can max it for HP or MPG; I went for MPGs.

One reason I went with Tune Time is that they offer life-time re-tunes. I know most people will never take advantage of this, but it's nice to know you can.

But, like db said, the best way to get good mpgs is to change your driving habits.

I went with HPtuners and have been very satisfied with them. Improvement made on MPG and performance. No other performance mods done.

So... how much difference do you believe the tune change made to your mpg's? Trying to make an assessment of ROI...

Yeah - that's true for just about anything on the road...

Thanks!

I'm sorry, I meant to say I went for max HP.

my normal MPG with shared city/hiway is 28.4, when on trips I use premium or mid grade and average from 29.9 to 32.5. No tune, 2.4 auto.

So... how much did the HP tune add to your mileage? Have you been able to substantiate this over a number of tanks? Also, was this both an in-town and highway enhancement, or was it limited to highway? In-town?
