Bi-Xenon retro fit
Bi-Xenon retro fit
I'm not trying to do a "how to" write up. Just wanted to show off my new lights and some of the issues I had and how it came out.
Objective: Classy, OEM look. I don't want people to pick me out from a mile a way and know I have retro fitted the HHR. I want people to think, "Hey, I didn't realize HHR's had factory HIDs." Of course I also wanted to spend as little as possible. :)
Parts list:
-Bought some factory BMW Bi-Xenon projector housings made by Hella (ebay $65 shipped). I have used these in the past and they have very high quality optics.
-I had a half dozen or so OEM D2S bulbs around (4300K).
-I used some 5 year old, 100K mile Xentec ballasts out of my wife's old car.
-I had a wire harness from an aftermarket high/low kit.
-Bought D2S adapters so I could use my aftermarket ballasts (ebay $10 shipped).
I had heard a couple conflicting stories about baking the housings in the oven. Total waste of time. It's an RTV type sealant. All I got was warm housings. It would have been way easier if I had just cut the housings open in the first place. I used an angle grinder with a cutting disc. I tried to keep the cuts clean and it worked well and I RTV'd them back together when I was done and it actually looked way better then I was expecting.
