I install, (and use for my own vehicles), Invisible Patterns paint protection film. Originally, we were using the 3M brand, but found that it isn't as stable over time as the IP is.
The difference between the PPF and sign vinyl is thickness (40 mil vs 8 mil)and flexibility. PPF has to be much more flexible to fit around curves, where sign vinyl requires the occasional relief cut. Imagine applying sign vinyl to the front fascia of a car, in one big piece, and you see where I'm going.
