Just installed a new shift boot.


Also bought the same boot for the park brake. have to mod it. should have it on soon.

To re-question 'how does the OEM boot attach to the console'? In the past I've ran across vehicles that have had plastic posts that perforate the stock leather boot that get 'melted' ('welding' them) onto the bezel as well as boots that have used adhesive to hold them on! Can you tell me how the HHR is affixed on underside of the trim? Is it only stuck to the chrome??? Any pic's of disassembly?
Also- from the looks of it, you retained the STOCK shift knob, but the boot looks like it goes higher up the shifter arm (which IMO makes it 'look' shorter)... is this right? Did you take the knob off? If so- just by twisting it (normal thread)? I've attempted to twist mine off... and I'm either weak or a wuss cuz I can't get it to move (trying not to brake it). The e-Brake boot will look good once done - be sure to post pics once complete.

All you have to do is lift up on the back of the gray part of the consal. Don't lift to high. You might break the front at the dash. Then you can reach under and pop up the crome that goes around the boot. I cut the old boot at the top to get it off the shifter. The boot is stapled to a black peice of plastic. It clips to the crome peice. Remove the staples and the boot. I then stapled the new boot on and reversed the steps. Took about 15 min's. The hardest part was removing the staples.

If you need I can take it apart agian and post pics.

 

I don't know how the shift nob comes off. I am keeping it on.(I like it)
I bought a after market Reactive boot. Looks like carbon fiber, but has a grey look to it. It just has a string to tie around the shifter and it tucks in to the boot so you don't see it.

 

Pic's of as well as step-by-step written details (removal of anything) is ALWAYS welcome!!!! (~please~)
If you can Photochop, drawing arrows or circles, to pinpoint things to 'watch out for ' I'd help more members than just me. If you can do... post in the "How To" section for all!!!
