question on running boards ???

i have had my HHR a couple weeks now and i hate the fact that the rear fenders (or doors) get all kinds of crap thrown on them all the time. I cant keep it clean it all. not only that my inlaws (whom we try not to go see) live on 5 and half miles of dirt roads. that transverse at about 20 mph to keep the rock throwing at a minimum =.

the question is i have seen fiberglass running boards that look like there supposed to be on the vehical (in other words they dont stand out they look factory might even be factory) that fill in the space between the front and rear fenders would this help keep the dirt of the rear fenders and doors. i mean if dirt can make its way there so can road debri that would scratch and i dont want that.

The running boards are currently THE solution to avoiding dings and chips on the rear wheel well/fenders. I still get dirt on mine even with the running boards, but it keeps most of the heavier stuff under the car.

I used to be a firm believer in this also. However, w/ factory boards since day one, at 23K my rear fenders are showing quite a bit of the "sand blasting".

The boards may reduce the effect to some degree, but the damage is still occuring.

Been there, done that. Boards and flaps solved the same problem for me.

I had the running boards put on also after finding out how much they help in the stone chip department. I plan on putting or having put on the mud flaps to help further the protection.
