The pads on that "OLD" ride look pretty substantial, probably rubber.
Maybe that`s were GM went wrong, trying to color match the pad and giving the wrong impression of the function.

Someone needs to create some chrome ones that look cool. Then everyone without running boards can install a cool pad that looks stylish and functional.

They'll still get pitted, chipped, and look like crap with time. The damage would probably be more visible if it's chromed plastic like all of the other chrome accessories on the HHR.

Yeah, but buffed and polished 304 stainless steel would do a nice job.

Just returned from a salvage yard and I'm surprised at some of the old "chrome" that was actually stainless. Still looks good.

I`ve been trying to find some guards so I can use Chrome vinyl and see how they come out.
The vinyl would be easily replaceable and could possibly last a year.
I haven`t gone to the dealer because of the price, $60.00 each.

True. But it seems like all the chrome accessories coming out for the HHR are vacuum chromed molded plastic. I don't think we'll see anyone having metal ones unless they are custom. Nobody wants to make parts for our cars yet. I'm hoping the panel and SS will finally help bring more aftermarket companies to our vehicles and more of a variety/selection of parts.

Any HHR's sitting in that yard yet? Hate to see if there was but then again, could be fun to get parts from.

True...but I'm thinking, if someone took a little time, they could create something VERY acceptable. I mean heck, it's not like forming the contours of the hood.
