i would avoid turtle wax. talked with an autozone guy. turtles new formula looks great on, but when u clean it up to start over, your clear coat comes off too. understand they have some lawsuits currently in the works.

thanks fer the tips

I ended up buying the Eagle 1 Gel wax (on sale for $3.99!). It went on really easy but the package is right about wiping it off immediately--it dries fast and gets kind of sticky when you leave it on for a few minutes. No white residue and it smells a bit like coconuts.

I also bought a clay bar and it did indeed get dirt off hte paint...there were streaks in the bar. Now it's off to the detailers for a good upholstery cleaning and that should remove the last of the previous owner's poor housekeeping.

Wax is sort of a rip off. It is mostly intended to extract money from wallets of individuals that don't have that much to eliminate to begin with. Think about it: If one has enough money they don't concern themselves with chemicals needed to perserve a car's shining finish, when they simply find themselves purchasing another vehicle within 12 to 15 months out, elimating any thought for the need of concern as to the vehicle's finish.

There are a lot of people that buy a new car every year. Then there are the individuals that keep their vehicles longer, but will never wax the car themselves but would rather pay someone else to do so. And then there's US!

20 years ago after trying many waxes for my black geo tracker, and no wax really did much. Except make my black car look brown in the sunlight. Then I discovered Mother's polish & sealant, followed up by mother carnuba wax... and Ive used the same stuff on every vehicle since. The trick is the polish stuff, it really brings out the color, and then wax it. I'm sure there is other brands now, but I will not put anything but "mothers" on my cars. Its worked great for me, and I dont like change

I'd recommend Zaino, but I've been selling it for going on 10 years. Back in 2000 I purchased some to try on my then new 2000 Z28. I was really tired of the endless people going on and on about it's virtues. My goal was to prove it didn't work. I failed at that and soon thereafter became the dealer in southern California. It's really good, but I'm not a sponsor, assuming there are sponsors, so that's all I'll say.

Bad03xtreme-#26 is not gone-take a look. You can wax your HHR forever with the gallon size!

For black paint . ?

I'm gonna try this over the weekend, (anybody use it before ? ) Turttle wax Ice sucs for paint (Hard to remove the synthetic oily swirls , But it is great for black plastic (SS grills ect.)
I'll try a new wax when the old ones gone, Maybe every 3-4 months. So over the years i've tried LOTS, The one that i wish i had a few cases of is CALIFORNIA SUPER WAX. It was the best shine . It kept my 1988 pathfinder SE 4x4 looking new for 13 years and over 130,000 miles. (wish i only drove those miles these days )- 23 months with my SS as of today = 43,200 miles. But yet .
