I dont have a pic of mine, but it is not a true telescoping. It comes apart and you can change the hight of it that way. Unless someone beats me to it (since I am slow and lazy) I will snap a photo of mine and post it. I also have the "stubby" antenna.
As far as getting one from someplace else I dont think you can.

 

Did you get it from Mike, I thought he sold a telescoping one not one the needed to be taken apart....I have the stubby antenna and wouldn't want anything else but this is for a friends car not mine.

 

Check eBay and use search term VW chrome antenna. If memory serves me right, the telescoping one that fits the Golf works on the HHR.
