06 HHR Premium Amp found missing

Just got this ride with non-op audio system. Factory head unit works fine as far as I can tell but found that someone removed the factory amp in the back...just an empty space with 3 loose connectors. Can I replace with any similarly sized/rated amp and if so, what, if any, specialty harness adapters or other hardware do I need to make it work? Don't want to spend much as I plan on replacing the factory head unit this winter anyways but would like to have something in the meantime. Or would it be better to just replace the head unit now and use the built in amp to drive the speakers? If that's the case, what's the best way to connect those factory speaker wires to the head unit since there would still be the issue of those loose amp connectors? I figured plenty of folks have replaced one or both of those components so any suggestions on what are the easiest, best, and/or cheapest solutions would be appreciated greatly. Thanks!

Welcome to the site, I'm sure one of our audiophiles will jump in with some great information, in the mean time, search amp replacement in the search window.
