Thumbs up ADDING XM to your Factory radio update

12-09-07
I installed the factory XM kit from the Chevy dealer yesterday it works great, unlike the aftermarket product. On a scale of 1-10 it's about an 8. If your adept at working on cars especially interiors you should be able to do this otherwise take it to your local radio shop to get it installed. To install the antenna you will need a 3/8" electric drill an 11/16" and 5/16" drill bit. [ 11/16" for big hole,5/16" for the pin. note the 11/16" hole will need to be reemed out just a little Don't get to big or else the spring tabs will not lock-in to the roof. Locate the factory antenna at the rear of roof centered and aligned with the liftgate window washer 8 1/2" in from the roof lip. This will keep you out of the double metal. Take care not to scratch up the roof. tip: cover the area where you will be drilling with a couple of layers of masking tape before you drill the holes. Also blow the metal filings off don,t wipe them off or you will scratch the paint. Driill the big hole first. Then take the antenna in hand and take a black magic marker and coat the bottom of the pin then feed the wires into the big hole and partially insert the part with the wires into the big hole and touch the the pin to the roof and press gently down and the magic marker will leave a mark remove the antenna and drill the 5/16" hole on the mark you are now ready to install the antenna. Note this antenna also serves the Onstar if you have it,you will replace the Onstar antenna with this one[it has the leads].

I'm still wondering where you installed the actual XM receiver box and whether the box comes with all the wiring you need to hook it up?

[Part#17800594 XM Radio] you can order online from gmpartsdirect.com for $190.25 + shipping or you can order from your local Chevy parts dept. for around $225.00 + tax they might match the $190.25 price ,the dealer I dealt with did .It took about 5 days to get it.
