My .02 worth. I have an 857D but haven't put it in my HHR yet. I did have it in my Ranger and using the separation kit I had the head mounted to a bracket that was mounted under the clip for the visor. It worked great and placed the head almost in line of sight. The cable ran under the plastic piece on the pillar so there was no mic cable dangling from the roof. I also have been using the ATAS-120 antenna that works great with the 857D. Change freq, push a button and watch the antenna self tune. Either Comet or Diamond heavy duty hatch mounts will work just fine. On my Ranger I mounted it to the side of the hood which was kind of flimsy, so reinforced it with a piece of aluminum to the hinge bracket of the hood. The mount itself was very strong. Currently just running APRS in the HHR. Using a hatch mount for the antenna and all the equipment is in the back near the battery. Mike, KL7IFW

Mike, any chance you could show some pics of the mount(s)?

Eric...Click on the camera to go to my uploaded photos for some shots of the mount. Not sure which mount this is as I think I have both a Diamond and Comet. They look about the same. If you get one be sure to get the one with the cable and connector. They utilize the very small coax to get though the rubber seal around doors or hatch. Also if you're not aware, there is a group on Yahoo for the ATAS antenna. Lots of good info, installation photos and so on. Learned how to take mine apart after I twisted off one of the screws that holds the stinger in the top.

What is the part number for this mount?
Looks like RS730? Is that correct?
Who is the manufacturer?

I plan to put a through the roof antenna for VHF/UHF at the middle light location. A hatch mount for HF. The seperation kit comes with a mic extension as well.

My question (haven''t got the HHR manual yet) is how do you remove the overhead light to access the roof and hopw do you remove the pillar cover behind the driver?

Thanks

I'll be drilling thru the top as well. Nice ground plane up there.
Still working on scanner and radio locations.

Quietest ever!

Just installed an Yaesu Ft 100D in my SS NO ignition noise at all!
the combination of a trunk battery and the coil on plug makes for
very little ign rf on receive. I have the main unit in the trunk and the head on the dash using a modified lido bug mount. the antennas are a comet dual band
and a HI Q 2.5 80 both on Diamond K400 mounts. Just worked a UA3 and MI0
yesterday mobile from FL. Pics Forthcoming....

Hhr rfi

Hi guys,
I have 2006 HHR and I have a Kenwood 2000 in it. I have terrible RFI on HF .
It is only there when under load. You can put it into neutral or just push the clutch in and rev the motor and there is no noise at all, but let out the clutch and hit the gas and there it is.
Any ideas??

Thanks,
Chuck
