JL Audio 13w7 spare tire area subwoofer box

Just felt the need to show off my work-in-progress. I've modeled the box using SketchUp, calculated, tweaked dimensions, calculated again, tweaked again, etc. to figure up the internal airspace for sealed box specs for a 13w7. Perhaps I should've learned how to fiberglass, but I'm already invested in using 3/4" Baltic Birch plywood at this point. Got it mocked up with wood screws and set in the back, though I'm still waiting on a 22.5 degree router bit for the front panels. The top should be easy and hopefully won't stick up past the stock level too badly. I'll keep y'all updated with more progress as it happens.

Box looks heavy.

The weight isn't as bad as I thought it would be. For the strength and thickness, Baltic birch is supposed to be one of the lighter materials.

I guess you wouldn't get the sound you're looking for with plastic material.

Hey Mike, that thing is really looking nice. Birch should be excellent, fiberglass would vibrate way too much!

I thought I was the only one still using SketchUp, love that program, I hate that Google dropped it and made it a non-free app.
I still use the last free version for various stuff. Recreated my whole house in it for remodeling brainstorms.

Got it finished up tonight. Decided on sticker-bombing the top. The rest, well, ain't nobody gonna see it but me, so whatever. Can't wait to figure out the amp mounting and get everything hooked up again.

That magnet is a beast on that thing. Interested to hear how much SPL you get with it in that enclosure.

So, I was contemplating hiding the amps behind the d/s panel in the factory subwoofer location, but decided to make an amp rack in the cubby area instead. 4 pieces of aluminum, some drilling and bending, and it's done. The only thing left now is a false floor for stealth and practicality.
