New speakers
again depending on your liking..i switched to pioneers in my other car at the time and they sounded 100x better but you will lose the "lows" that the crappy stock speakers give you...the pioneers (depending on which ones you get) will be a decent upgrade and budget wise fairly cheap and do the job. It all depends on how much you are willing to spend and the type of music you listen to and how much of a "music ear" you have as well
Check out one of my old posts. Just another option for ya!
My Alpines were about $99 pair if I remember correctly.

Having never really delved into audio in a car before, I have NO, 0, ZIP, ZILCH idea of where to start and what to look for. I want good quality that will hold up to some thump.. That's about it...
it may sound nutz to some people but Edgar Winters and Frankenstein can really show a lot of the potential of a sound system, lots of highs and thumps away down low, now this works for me, so take your fav tune and let it rip!! then follow your ears and wallet!!

Remember everyone, speakers are 3 dimensional. Width, length and depth. All 6.75" speakers are not created equal. Sure they are all 6.75 x 6.75 but what about the depth? This is called xmax, how far a cone can travel. If you find a set of speakers, Pioneer or otherwise with a deeper cone, or xmax, this means the cone will move more air, which means more bass.
Of course also make sure you wire you're fancy new speakers, whatever the brand "in-Phase" this will also yield best results.
Notice I haven't even mentioned sound deadener yet.
First song I ever heard with a subwoofer in a car, Way back in '89ish!!
It was a single 15 mounted in a custom box that fit in the spare tire hole in the trunk! I think the car was a Corolla or something like that!!

Just bought 4 of these and it was less than $60. Sound good, I'm not looking for a beat up contest trophy so these work well for me. Also I have an LS and didn't want to spend an extra $40 for the speaker adapters or brackets. I tore the stock speaker off the original adaptor, drilled a couple holes and zip tied it and it worked perfect. Also, just cut off the stock adaptor and just butt spliced in the new wires. By the way all 4 of my speakers wet out at once and been listening to 2 tweeter for 3 weeks!! Good luck
