Optional Advanced 2-way remote. Anyone try it out yet?
Hello,
I've read about the advanced 2-way remote that is available for the HHR. Has anyone tried this out yet? If so, was it worth the expense? It sounds like it has a longer range and you can remotely open the back gate.
Just want to hear if it might be worth getting down the road.

There is a note in the service manual that it could pop the rear gate which I think would be useful. I don't think it can operate the windows though.
Hopefully someone has one and can post how they like it!
The pictures you posted of the installation explain why the remote is so expensive. It sounds like it comes as a kit with the extra antenna.
Do you know if the old key frobs will still work after the upgrade at their normal range?
I can say this about these new remotes. The install is fairly easy. We have done a Tahoe and a Avalanche. But the set-up is a nightmare and both took numerous calls to GM techline and hours of tech time to get working.
I really wouldn't mind if I never have another customer want this option. At least until GM gets the bugs worked out.

After browsing the books I am amazed at just how much electronics have been crammed into these vehicles now. To fix them or modify them you need to have some computer/electronics background to have a chance to do this on your own.
I can understand having an on-board computer to manage the engine for better economy and emissions but I think they don't really need all the extra electronics on the car. It just adds to the expense and complexity of the vehicle.
Anytime you do repairs concerning remote door locks, the TPS, if equipped, is also involved since they both use the same module to receive the RF signal.
Robot, I think I'm going to like you. This is one of the first posts that makes a statement concerning the complexity of these vehicles and the challenges to repair them. Most of the people on here think that all service techs are dummies that just take wild guesses on what will fix a vehicle. And of course everyone knows better then a GM service tech, what will fix their vehicle. Sure there are bad techs, but there are many more good ones out there working on these complex systems.
