Silent radio

This has been happening occasionally since about a year after I got my 2006 HHR: The radio display lights up with RDS and full functionality (change bands, change stations, change inputs, etc.), but there is no sound at all. The door chime and turn signal click still work (which are reportedly tied into the sound system) but the rest of the sounds are dead. Turning off the car for several minutes then restarting frequently solves the problem, but sometimes it must sit overnight to recover the sound system. It can go days or sometimes even months between recurrences. Any ideas? No radio makes for a long trip - especially if you're alone.

Most likely it's an internal radio problem and replacement is the fix.

Take it to the dealer, they have a fix, called re-programming the body module,, I said no ****? Body module?? Yep, they stuck a programming cd into the radio and my power up problem with the radio was fixed,,, Sorry for being so late in replying,, and you probably have it fixed already,, but at least you know someone else had the problem.
