Did you order new axle gland nuts?

Yes, according to GM they are a one-time-use item. Most auto parts stores should have them in stock.

Great, all my parts get here tomorrow, I'd hate to have to wait for the gland axle nut. Thank you for your input. You've been very helpful.

All HHR's have aluminum arms...

X2... No exceptions except the ones that came with stamped steel ones from a person who improperly replaced them! Get the Aluminum ones in there and be done with it! Also, I really feel uncomfortable with that "bolted on" type of ball joint..... What are the torque specs? How do you know it it is seated and tightened properly? YIKES!

Old fashioned front ends were all bolted together or press fitted. I tend to trust rivets less.

I have the new rotors and both front wheel hubs sitting on my work bench waiting for the LCA assemblies coming tomorrow. I want to replace the axle/hub nuts. Been searching all over and having a difficult time finding them. Went to advance auto today girl at the counter says, "you have to buy the whole axle assembly". Yeah right!
Does anyone have the GM part# for the HHR SS axle/hub nut? I know that it takes a 36 mm (1.417 in) socket I measure across the flats of the nut today and bought the socket. Seems the standard HHR axle nut is smaller? I can find the standard HHR axle nut part # on the common parts thread page, but not the one for the SS. Did I miss something?
Is there a tech manual available on line so I can look this stuff up?

This seems to be saying that it is for the SS, and not the non-SS. NUT. Front Axle. Front Wheel Drive Axle Shaft. Hub Front and Rear. Rear for 2008 Chevrolet HHR Hatchback. #10289657

If you expand the 'diagrams and kits' tab, scroll all the way down. For: AU46 2.0 (LNF) auto or manual, 2008-2010

Not sure if it's a mistake on the common parts thread, or if all HHRs use the same nut.

Thanks for the link, from watching a youtube video for the HHR standard model, the axle nut is 30 mm hex across the flats, the the SS version is 36 mm. It does appear they are different sizes. The link you provided doesn't allow for an SS trim selection. Maybe I'm missing something and it describes the difference for the SS in the fine print somewhere, I'll keep looking. Thanks again!
