New Brakes needed?...Maybe not!

New Brakes needed?...Maybe not!
So I'm on the way home yesterday and I start hearing a nice growl that sounded like the wear indictators from the front brakes. I only have 9980 miles and I'm thinking "Great not even 10k and I already need to do brakes" So this afternoon, I pull off the fronts and to my suprise both pads have around 60-70 percent left in them. Also, the rotors have more than enough meat left in them. Runout was also in spec. I found the backside of the pads had collected brake dust material, road grime, etc. on the sides of the pad clips. So, I ended up taking off the pads and clips on all 4 wheels and gave them a through cleaning. The backside pads on the fronts required a gasket scraper to remove all the caked on gunk. Glad nothing needed replacement, just an hour and a half of my time. Brakes feel like new now. Anyone else find this when they thought they needed new pads/rotors and they really didn't?

I know what you mean but I wash the SS two times a week during the summer and wipe the wheels down every day usually. More work but I enjoy spending time with the SS. When I do need new brakes, I will be upgrading!!!

With the factory brakes, your'e right, you need to wipe them down just about every day. Don't feel bad. The tech at the dealer told me the new Caddys are the same way. Pretty sad to pay big money for a new vehicle and get the cheapest pads made.
