The Koni listing for the Cobalt works just fine in the HHR.

Ok! I ordered the KYB struts and the mounts for the front, and a pair of KYB shocks for the rear. They should arrive by this weekend. Got it all at Partstrain.com for $260 out the door. Thank God for coupon codes! Well, hope they do the trick. I'll let you know how it goes once they're installed.

Well, I've been driving for four days now with my new KYB shocks, struts and strut mounts, and... NO MORE KNOCKING coming from the front! Car feels great! A bit firm, but that's probably because I got used to the old worn out ones. Those were so shot they stayed in any position you put them in (once removed). Absolutely no resistance!

I am set now! Hopefully nothing mechanicle to worry about till the 100k scheduled maintenance. My thanks to all you guys and all the helpful comments you put out there.

Glad it worked out for you. I noticed that noone answered your question about the Moog sway bar links. Did you replace those as well?

If not - MOK80252 likely is the one you need - However, check this thread as it has info about the different lengths of the links that are available for the different suspensions for the HHRs - https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/show...t=36889&page=3

Thanks for the input on the MOOG MOK80252 sway bar links, whopper. It seems I don't need to replace them yet. But I'll keep your suggested link in mind if I ever have to. Thanks!

Knock like noises from the front when turning AND going in/out a driveway or over a speed bump/hump or anything else that flexes the struts while turning is usually caused by failing strut bearings and mounts. This is a very common thing in GM vehicles.
