There have been folks here with ones that have gone bad capp, the noises seem to be creaks, cracks, clangs, rattles, "thongs", and crunching when the wheel is turned.

Depending on the mileage of the capp-mobile, its probably a good idea to change out the strut mounts when doing struts, they tend to dry out and lose their lubrication over time.

The mounts in my '06 were toast at 89,000 miles, while the ones I replaced in the '07 at 60,000 were still OK, but it was a case of "while I have it apart, might as well replace them".

Mine does it and has been diagnosed....i think "thong" is the right description of the noise. you should feel it in the steering wheel as well

I just replaced the strut mounts with the struts. They were not expensive so like 843 said, while I am in there make everything new.

Very strange. Did the noise change any at all or does it sound exactly the same?

Make sure that the noise is in fact coming from the top. Some noises can originate from one spot and the noise "travels" along a solid part and then seem to come out elsewhere.
Check the lower end of the strut and the surrounding suspension. One way is by taking a handhold and feeling for the noisemaker. If it makes a noise, it will also cause vibrations. You should be able to feel it. Just be careful and don't get your hand pinched or crushed.
Good Luck. Keep us posted.
