struts replaced again after only 7 months?????

really?? Wtf? I had the shocks, struts, etc....all front end suspension repaired and replaced back in may of this year @ carmax. I have an 07 hhr....its made an odd rubbing noise when I turned steering wheel to left or right, finally I took it in today and was told the right strut mount needs to be replaced....is this normal for this vehicle???

Not normal, but more of an oversight on the part of the tech who did the struts, if he suspected the mount was bad or dried out, it should have been replaced along with its companion on the other side.

I'd take it back and say "you know this strut mount didn't just suddenly go bad since May, I think y'all missed something and what can you do to make things right". On an '07 I'd change out the strut mounts just as a matter of course, they may be fine, but when everything is apart its best to do them for what little they add to the bill.

yup!!! I'm picking up my car tomorrow, going to speak with the manager about this! The tech back in may dropped the ball on this one for sure.

The only problem I see is that the work was done 7 months ago. I would be quite surprised if they honor that, especially if you go in there accusing them of something they might not be responsible for. 7 months ago they could have been visibly ok and just ready to fail, so that's why it wasn't seen. 7 months is a long time to pass before complaining about something.

One question to you.... If when they were in there the last time, the showed you your mounts and they looked ok, but suggested you change them anyway for the extra cost, would you have let them? or would you have said "if they look good, then there is no need to change them"?

Take a look in the wheel well on both sides with a flashlight while a helper turns the steering wheel lock to lock (all the way from left to right). I had a similar noise start on mine about 9 months after changing struts with Monroe quick struts. I found that the spring on the drivers side of mine was rubbing on the wheel well.
