Question sway bar end link question

I saw a couple of posts in here that said I could remove the end links and go for test drive to see if the noise was gone. Will the sway bar move around during the test drive and also make a noise.
Thanks,
Eddie

Depends on what noise you mean.
You can look at the sway bar bushings. They are rubber and should be very tight around the bar.
You can grab the links and see how they move. They have a ball joint on each end; twisting is OK, any other is bad.

I wouldn't bother with disconnecting and test driving.

Well, if it's clunking and you disconnect it, and then there's no noise, you just isolated the bar and links as possible culprits. If you can narrow it down, it's worth trying.

The bar should not move if it's disconnected. Any remaining clunks should be gone if you swing the links out of the way. It's useful to me. You will still need to find what has the slack causing the clunk - links or bushings - or something else.

I tried the disconnect one end of one link tie wrapped it to the strut, it made more noise, then I just replaced both of them.
grease them every 3,000 miles.

I got under the car and snatched and pulled on all the suspension parts and can't find anything loose. It was on ramps...not jacked up. Replaced control arms last week. They were worn out.
Don't think there is a safety issue. Tired of looking. I will just turn the radio volume up and keep driving.
Thanks for all your help.
Eddie

Bad links are obvious once removed

Once removed:
  1. You'll probably have to replace them anyway
  2. If the ball joint on either end of a link are easy to move by hand, they're bad. The ball joints on each end of each link should be pretty solid and unable to be moved around by hand.
  3. If all the link ball joints are solid, are you sure they're the right part?
