2.2L Clutch needing replaced

I am being told that it is my clutch that needs replacing. Not dealer informed of this as of yet, but this is what my mechanic friends are inclined to think without being present for the event.

"Driving normally and go to accelerate after slowing for a curve and nothing. Stop and put it in first and slowly lift the rpms and not an inch moved. I stop and apply ebrake and put in first gear no add of gas pedal and car doesn't stall. Check the clutch travel and its normal. ~2" for gear changes."

My question is, can a Chevy HHR and Cobalt BOTH with 2.2L motors and Manual Transmissions have clutches that interchange? I am looking at AutoZone.com and see that they look about the same size.

Yes ships typically within 24 hours after ordering.

You should always replace the Slave/Throw Out Bearing when you replace a clutch.

I would replace the slave cylinder as it is inside the tranny and if it goes out later you will be pulling the tranny again. I just had our Ion's clutch go out too.

Same engine same transmission, why not? Add Saturn Ion and Pontiac G5 and a bunch of "world" models. In fact, Ill bet that the trans and the motor arrive at the final assembly plant already mated from their very own separate factory.

I was noticing that the 'Balt 2.2 had a performance clutch for sale at AutoZone, but the HHR didn't.

You're probably looking at the Exedy clutch set for the 'Balt, while it might work in an HHR, I see that they want you to call their 800 number for application verification. You may be told that it won't work in an HHR, or they wont warranty it if used in an unapproved application.

For the most bang for your buck, think about TurboTech's unit, or go with the OEM equivalent.

Ideally you only want to do a clutch once, and don't even think about skipping the slave cylinder.

Looking at Luk clutches the 2.2l Ion has a different part number then the balt and HHR 2.2l and 2.4l. The Ion Redline and the SC Balts have the same part number. My Ion has a F23 tranny but I haven't looked at my HHR's yet to know if it is the same tranny or not. I thought I had read that they were though. The Trans shop I called today made sure to mention the HP and TQ differences between the two motors so maybe the 15HP increase was too much for the Ion's clutch LOL.

Just went to Oriely's web site and they too list different parts for the Ion vs the rest. The G5 is the exact same car as the Cobalt and it is the same clutch.
