Well GM allows 7.8 hours to do a clutch replacement with a new slave cylinder. So at the prevailing $85 an hour charged by most dealers, that's $663 just in wrench swinging time, plus the clutch kit and slave cylinder at full boat dealer list.

You could get a quality aftermarket clutch kit and slave cylinder and save some dough, then have the dealer do the work(With the understanding that if the parts are incorrect, you'll really take a hit on labor).

Or, if Stiglitz is still mobile, take him to a good transmission shop for another estimate.

It does suck, but clutch work is never cheap.

Stiglitz is in-op. I can not move him at all. Towed there by Warranty, and I have to get an insurance tow to get him out after paying $75 for the "diagnosis".

That sucks.

See if they'd agree to you supplying the parts, that would save you some scratch.

My boss is getting in contact with our company/fleet mechanic to see if he can do it, and if so for how cheap. I am looking at the KY Clutch from TTR on another tab, for $300.xx.... I just don't know if I should do that, or take my cousin who is store manager for an Auto Zone up on his offer for a Dura-Last clutch and slave for $200.. When the KY without slave is $300 and with is $390..... I can't afford $400 for a clutch when I owe the IRS $2,400.. I don't have this kind of money right now. I just want to curl up in a ball and pretend this is all a dream..

What is BS is that warranty time is listed as 4.9 hours but yet non warranty is 7.9. Atleast that is what I saw on one site but they could be wrong. Also that was for the Ion. But it is exactly the same. Fuse box is even in the same location right over the top tranny mount lol.

I found a transmission shop that has done these cars, both the Saturn and the HHR and Cobalts and other GMs and stated that even though book time is 7.9 he gets it done closer to the 4.9 so he does not charge the full 7.9. His quote for a Luk clutch and slave install including resurfacing the flywheel is a little under $900. I had several shops want $1600 with over $600 being for the clutch kit itself. During our convo yesterday he finished it with when I am ready (two weeks) to contact them and they will get it over to them.

So if your fleet guys can't do it for what ever reason try calling around and be sure to check transmission specialty shops.

Kev- Hang in there man..

Do you really need a $$$ Hi-perf clutch ? Maybe you do, depends on your driving skills.

The Stealership is gonna cost the most. Look around for other options.

I'm curious how many miles to have on it?

Mileage is 79,025.

Billy, I think a high-perf clutch wouldn't be a bad idea. If the OEM only lasted 79,025 miles, then maybe I should try something else. I haven't even driven crazy like for a year. Not that Stiglitz lost his luster, but, I've just calmed down off of wanting to go fast.

Kev- If your wallet could stand it, Yes.. And if you plan to keep it a good while longer.

This is low miles for a bad clutch pack.

That's pretty low mileage to need a clutch. I'm at 90+ and mine still pulls as good as new. Sounds like someone is riding the hell out of it.
