The Hippo does not go forward (but!... goes backwards).

Hi guys
i came back to the problem today...
all these 3 months, Hippo just dozed under the windows without moving, I was in no hurry because I sat tightly on the Mazda.
Well, today I took Hippo to the doctor. The result is frightening ... In general, guys, my budget has rushed sharply towards bankruptcy.
The initial autopsy of the transmission revealed a burnt liquid with sand and shavings inside - my clutches destroyed, God knows what else was damaged there.
It is not yet possible to calculate the cost of repairs, but the optimistic option is already causing despair.
However, I have no choice but to put Hippo on his feet, or rather on wheels. I do not want to sell it, besides, there is no demand for such a car in the RF, therefore I will not receive acceptable money.
Well, I will act in two directions at the same time:
1. Look for inexpensive but high-quality repairs;
2. Scour in search of a transmission that is guaranteed to be in good working and which is not capable of treason.
I will use what will be cheaper, even if longer

I take it you are not interested in rebuilding it yourself.

I would be glad
but I don't have:
1. experience;
2. places for repair (need a lift and a warm garage).
From time to time snow in our area, wallowing in mud is a dubious pleasure.
In addition, I am afraid that with my crooked hands I will exacerbate the problem.

There probably are lots of front drive Opels or other GM brands around. Most any 4T45 will fit the car, maybe with different final drive ratios. It is used in most 4 and 6 cylinder GM models for the last 30 years.

yes, your true
There are many Opels and Chevy "made in Korea"around and the 4T45E transmission is also known, although not numerous.
Here you need to understand the features of the Russian car market. The number of vehicles with a manual transmission is at least 3/5, most likely even more. At the same time, the GM concern with all its brands is far from being a leader of automarcet and not even in the top five. In other words, there are transmissions, but they are very few at any given moment. Today (just like yesterday, and a week ago) there is not a single one in Yekaterinburg, although it is the 3rd city in the country in terms of motorization.
Well, crime: the guarantee is very shaky, there is a big risk of buying a transmission, but being deceived and paying money for the unit, which then still has to be repaired. Unfortunately, I do not have a reliable supplier. But I'm looking! through friends, colleagues, etc.

.

just intermediate information
. The automatic transmission was never restored, and attempts to buy a used gearbox that was guaranteed to work were fruitless.
I decided to repair my gearbox. Found a reliable specialist in automatic transmission. He calculated the cost of repairs and this cost did not arouse enthusiasm. I decided to save on the cost of spare parts. I ordered: a set of solenoids and magnetic valves - they arrived, Dexron 6 12 liters from the Korean ZIC and a filter were bought on the spot in Yekaterinburg, a set of pistons in Moscow is reserved (but not yet bought) - you need to wait for an autopsy to find out their health. There was a hitch with the clutch kit - the 4T45E kit was ordered in China on Black Friday, but an irresponsible Chinese sent me 4T65E. He admitted his mistake and is ready to correct it, but the path is too long, by the New Year holidays I will purchase the necessary kit.
Turned on the Behemoth twice, he can drive himself, but only until the transmission warms up. This was enough to get to the workshop (a little more than 1 km), and after a couple of days to return home. But the start is not just sluggish - it is practically non-existent, and if by some miracle you pick up speed (approximately 3rd gear) - as if you didn’t feel sick

I would be looking for a torque converter, too.

sorry, again I messed up with the translation,
donbrew - thank you very much..

The torque converter really needs revision and restoration. But in Russia they know how to fix it. The body is opened (riveted? cut?) along the seam. Then they flush and change the impellers if necessary. There are specialists who deal almost exclusively with this service - it turns out cheaper than buying a new torque converter. Well, they always have parts in stock. I noticed that there are far fewer models of torque converters than models of transmissions. Several transmissions of different years and specifications use the same torque converter.
In general, when my transmission is taken apart, the "donut" will automatically go to the "donut" doctor. Disassembly / assembly + flushing + restoration will cost 8 - 10 thousand rubles / 130 - 170 USD
