2008 Lt2 2.4

Went from Gilroy, CA to Phoenix AZ and back, 1505 miles round trip, 30.1/MPG running 75-80 most of the time. I am a happy camper with that. Only real mod is Eibach Pro Kit. HHR ran excellent. Super fun through the Grapevine and Pacheco Pass.

Today I made a run across Florida and back 225 miles all total. I got 35.6 mpg with an average speed of 47 mph. (2.4L auto) The DIC said 32.2 mpg. I was only on I75 for about 50 miles, and kept to the 45-55 mph roads (Rt 192) from the east coast to the west side. There was very little traffic on the "back roads" and alot less stressful driving while I 75 was like the Daytona track..70 was slow. I only passed three cars going less than 70 on I 75.

Let me know if the Jelly works.........

...In the winter now here in Minnesota, where we alter the gas too, my mileage has dropped to 26, down from 31, on average. I'm very pleased with this result, and I have also let down the tire pressure to, for traction on the nasty roads we have during the winter....

On a recently purchased 06 HHR with 2.4 auto: Around town, roughly 2/3 city, 1/3 highway, in the winter, getting 22.6-23.9. On the highway, I have seen as high as 32 on the one trip we took, with cruise set at 70 mph. On a ski trip to nothern Michigan, running Mich. from bottom to top at 80 mph, it got 27.5mpg. On the way back on cruise at 70 mph, it got about 27mpg, but that was fighting a serious headwind.

I plan to change to Mobil 1 oil, and maybe have the ECU retuned. I am aiming for 34-35 on the highway at 70 mph.

2 observations so far:

These cars are tall and push a lot of air. Driving faster than 70 mph will definately hurt mileage.

Winter weather hurts mileage as well, even after the car warms up. Not only the gas, but the richer mixture caused by the colder air makes a difference.

Hey all , well I have a 2007 2LT /2.4 and my milage is about 20 / 24 and that is arround town and back and forth to work .( a 15 ml. trip one way ) and yes I too have not been happy with the milage . But is far better then the 14/16 i was getting with my Astro van . The other problem that I've been having is the noise from the front struts every time i hit a speed bump as I leave the neibherhood. the sevice tec said it was the rubber that is between the springs and the struts . Would love to get rid of that , guess i could just wait till weather warms up .

I changed the oil (Mobil 1 & a K&N filter) yesterday. I had 6000+ miles on the oil with 35% oil life left. I have been running Mobil 1 since I got the car. The last oil change was in May of '08 and it was done by the dealer. It seems that my mileage has dropped a bit. Its been in the high 20s rather that the low 30s. After 41K miles, I'm wondering why. I have a long road trip planned for later this month and figure an oil change may help out.
