I'm in the middle of a long road trip, Cincinnati to North Dakota, to Milwaukee, and back to Cincinnati. It's the first time I've had the car out on extended highway. I set the cruise on 65 and let it run. The actual gas mileage at fill-ups works out to just under 34mpg with the calculator. When I pulled away from the pump I saw this DIC Fuel Range estimate and just HAD to snap a picture.

2008 2LT Automatic, windows closed and no AC on, the heat selector knob NOT on the defrost modes, so as not to cycle the AC compressor. Running the premium Fuel which up until tonight's fill was 93 octane 10% Ethanol. This last one was a 91 octane, 10% Ethanol, so will be interested to see if it's any different.

I had pulled away from the pump, then quickly turned the car off before snapping the picture, so it wouldn't sip the 3 drops of gas that would move the range to below 600.

After looking at the weather conditions, I believe I was helped in the mpg by a bit of tailwind yesterday. That appears to be continuing, as I should have 10-15 mph tailwinds again today. YAY!!

I have to say from when I joined this site and reading some of the other posts of great mileage, I had been somewhat discouraged, since my in-town driving was around 21-24 mpg (DIC avg speed of 30 mph). I have since been able to improve that to around 25-26 with learning the car, and driving like the moderate old fart that I am. Now that I have acheived this highway mileage for myself, I'm really loving it. I know that the tailwinds are helping some, but I think that even without the winds, if driven moderately the car will still acheive better than the EPA estimate of 22/28.

Oh man, that was such a big deal in Carolina schools back in '75, everything would be going metric by 1980...ummmm....well not exactly. Of course I'm still waiting on that atomic powered flying rocket car that was supposed to be available by 1980 too, and waiting, and waiting.
