Kokomo...... you mentioned you had a cold air kit on the car. What brand is it??? And you bought the vehicle used....not the original owner?
Shoot I don't remember mentioning that but if I did I was mistaken this car has the original air intake. Also no I am not the original owner I believe I'm the 4th. First owner bought it in Indiana.
I always thought , why? Why remove the air box with the Woolley worm, and put in a plastic box for a cone filter, just install a K&N drop in filter!
I installed this in Oldblue a decade ago, no improvement, and the cold air still comes from the same hole in the inner fender. I sold that air box and went back to this double cold air source set up with a drop in K&N replacement filter. Still the same miles per gallon, no real HP gains .
Ok, sorry I misread. I asked because we are both in Arizona and thought perhaps you had purchased my 2006 HHR that had the same basic description. I sold it to a friend, in 2014, with low mileage and he sold it several years later and he said low mileage, but couldn't remember what. Just thought I would take a chance.
As for OldBlue's statement.........I wouldn't buy one based on all the tests I witnessed at GM....including so called filters. The GM Performance Air Box was free as a gift from GM for participating in the Customer Evaluation Program on that part. It had a washable hepa filter, essentially lifetime. And that was going to be my next question if you had that vehicle.
Ah, missing your old HHR ? You had the GMPP air box? I was going to look for one and try to find the Borla GMPP exhaust, but really there’s nothing wrong with my existing equipment so, I’m saving for my next tank of fuel! lol!
Oldblue........I came to the ultimate conclusion, in these cars it costs about $100 per horsepower. Even with GM Peformance equipment. I just didn't see it worth that. All the tested air intakes were 3-6 HP, same for exhaust. systems. Best choice was a decent tune. I had a light HP performance tune for free from a friend that is very experienced at HP tunes. He had to play awhile to get what I wanted. It was only 8-10 hp (variable dyno runs)., but was worth about 2-3 mpg more on the highway.......go figure.
When I had my 08 Vette, that was a different story. A larger "throttle body", a really good tune by the same friend, a little change to the exhaust system and a "blower" was good for almost 200hp, and it still was about $100 per, excluding the tune. I regrettably sold it about 1 1/2 years after the HHR. It was just to much of a monster for an old guy. I found myself making mistakes that could be costly in many ways.
Oh to answer your question related to missing the HHR......yes!!! and I have first call (hopefully) on a nieces, when she is ready to buy new again. It's a cream puff with current mileage of around 40,000.
