2009 Guage Cluster question

I just purchased a slightly used '09 LS, and I just noticed that the clear plastic piece that covers the guage cluster is slightly fogged up (you have to view from an angle in sunlight to see it). It looks like someone wiped a chemical soaked rag across it, damaging the plastic.

My question is, can I buy this part seperately, or will I need to find a complete cluster?

before you buy a new one try plastic cleaner and then plastic polish.... or maybe even just the polish first.... A little rubbing and it should be good as new. You can find them at most good auto parts stores

I tried hand rubbing it with Meguiar's Clear Plastic Polish, and it helped a little, but it's still there. I might try taking it out and using the dremel on it.

Which brings me to my next question, how much work is involved in takin it out?

I'd go back to your dealer and see if they will repair it.

If it's a "slightly used" you probably still have some warranty. If not, and depending on how long you've owned it, the dealer should/may still do something as a courtesy.

Could the problem be onthe INSIDE of the clusters clear plastic? Maybe the cluster was removed for a repair, for the previous owner.

You can call Specmo, located in MI and see what they would sell you one for.(800) 545-7910

I've had it for about two weeks. It still has the remainder of the factory warranty left on it, but I didn't figure it would be covered. If I would have noticed it, I would have made the dealer fix it before I bought it. I still might try calling them about it...couldn't hurt to ask.

The fogging looks like it's on the outside to me, but they may have had it out though.

Another trick to deal with surface scratches on plastic, is use pledge to clean it. Takes surface scratches out. Old trick we used years ago on light airplane windshields. We only cleaned them with pledge.
