Battery vent tube

Why does this thing keep breaking? Absolutely positive nothing has come in contact with it and you couldn't move the battery with a forklift. Is this just another GM quality part designed to fail??

Sounds like you might have something bumping against it.
They do "break easily" but mostly when removing and replacing the battery.
Especially in cold weather.
On my fist attempt to change my battery several years ago the temp was around 20 degrees F
Because I did not realize how brittle they were when cold I broke 2 in a row removing them at the battery hole.
I then figured out the if you use a large flat head screw driver to Carefully pry it loose where it attaches, there was no problem after that.
It cost me $60 to self learn the best way....

Gonna try to gorilla glue it as it seems to snap in the same place.

P.S. Just ordered this-

Apparently it will work. One reviewer said if you own a Chevyy HHR you will need this.lol
If it does work I will update this thread as it is a much cheaper alternative.

Interesting. My HHR is 13 years old, 160k, second battery and the tube is fine.

Well I am glad to hear this is not a problem shared by others.Hopefully this will be the last time I have to fix it.Thank's for everyone's reply's.
P.S. Not sure what kind of plastic they used to make the elbow but gorilla glue will not stick to it, and it laughed at my attempt to superglue it.
And thank you RJ for fixing my link.

Try RockAuto for a new one, they’re not very expensive.
