The brakes on our 05 Silverado have squealed since we got the truck and the same thing with our HHR but it's the drums not the dics for us.

I asked the dealer they told me the stock brakes produce a lot of dust that make them squeal. I have cleaned the rear brakes on the truck and it works for a while and then they'll start up again. However, the stock brakes on the truck have 82,000 miles on them and are still in good shape.

On a damp day, sometimes the first time I apply the brakes they squeal and grab, but then after that they're fine.

My brakes have been the same way since day one. I do notice lately that I have LOTS of brake dust showing up on my front wheels. Mileage in 26 months is 12,700.
