The local GM dealer looked at my car and told me that yes, my rear springs are both broken and they are not covered under the powertrain warranty. I will post pictures when the new ones go in.

They also told me I have a leaking strut, also not covered.

Also told me the bushings are bad, and also not covered under the power train warranty.

They told me the noise is not a wheelbearing issue, but my tires.

I question exactly what is covered under the "100,000 mile power-train warranty".

They charged me $45 to look at the car. Am not happy.

How the heck do you snap two rear springs in a vehicle that hasn't carried anything heavy? Back into any curbs? Drive over a parking block?

You don't have any teenage kids? Who would think getting some air over a set of railroad tracks is a good way to spend a Friday night? Can't tell you how many times I did this as a teenager.

Check this list for the coverage:

Bought the car new and have never been in an accident. Most heavy item ever carried would be about 180 lbs of bricks. Gave up my back-seat parking days over 40 years ago, and even then I dated skinny girls!

Attached is a photo of one of the broken springs. Both were broken near the bottom, so that meant the car didn't drop much, or enough to notice. So, the final is: two broken springs. I will purchase that lottery ticket tonight. :)

Now that is just plain weird, never heard of it happening before, might never again.

Maybe you should wait until the Powerball Lottery is up to 600 million again and buy a fistful of tickets, you're beating the odds for an unusual parts failure.

I will say this: Back in 2001 my daughter was a part of her senior high school class prank - they "borrowed" a cow from one of the local farmers and tied it to the flag pole at 3:00 AM and left it for the school and administration to wake up to. How they got the cow to the school is unknown to me.

A cow in the back of an HHR would be about the only thing I can think of that would have ever gone in the storage area. My HHR was just a dream in GM's mind back then, so I know that didn't cause it.

If he never noticed this problem I wonder if it's been that way all along.
