Mike,
Thank You for your research and suggestion of cutting the Pink / White wire to keep the HHR on recirculate.
I hated that every time I got into the car to drive in this HOT Florida heat that I would have to activate the recirculate.

Also another reason is I hate driving past smokers in traffic and having their stench sucked into the clean air intake directly into my car.

My appreciated.

Why not just reverse the pnk/wht and the lt grn/blk wires. Then default would be recirc on manually turn AC on; and fresh air AC always on if the fan is on.

You could then hijack the dk grn/wht wire that control ground to the AC clutch relay (the wire comes from the ECM, relay is on under hood fuse box). Use a switch to ground or some other cunning plan.

Or to avoid smoke coming through the vent get an activated charcoal cabin air filter. You knew you have a cabin air filter, right?

When you first start a car that’s been sitting in the sun, the worst case, the interior is a lot hotter than outside air, so to optimize cooling you don’t want recirc until it’s crossed over and inside air is cooler, and by that time, does it still matter?. Presumably this is why the default is outside air.
