Ok,
I think the issue is just poorly calibrated/adjusted photos online.
According to the chevy website, for 2010 tan interiors are not available on a silver HHR.
But online I see 2-tone tan interiors on silver HHR's in 2009 - are they really just the 2 tone grey like for 2010?

Must be my imagination then.
The two tone grey looks similar to the two tone tan.

I found one.
The silverstones in 09 do come with a tan interior - rare though.
