Drive an HHR through a Goodyear Blimp Hanger

Well we are back and it was fun. Not often you get to do somthing like this. We here in Akron are used to the blimps but even this was fun for us.

We got to drive through get some photos and even recieved a real piece of used Blimp envolope.

I hope they can do this every year as they hope. It is worth the time and for a good cause.
The Hanger is a place were few people ever get into. I only got in through my dads friends at Goodyear when he worked there. When they bring out a new blimp they will let the public in but it is not often they do something like this.

They also have really fixed this place up. It is hard to believe half of this building is 93 years old and the other half is pushing 80 years old. It was originally built in 1917 if I recall and has been the site of many historic things and visits.

Keep in mind how big this is and in the photo's you only see half of the building. The Zeppelin hanger down the road at Akron airport would hold 6-8 of the Wingfoot hangers inside of it. That one is massive.

In the old days when I was a kid Goodyear would keep all the Macy PArade ballons here at Wingfoot Lake. They would have a large Christmas party in their company Gym every year and they would inflate one of the Macy ballons in the gym or I should say half off one. We would get Popeye, Snoopy and Superman in king size and see Santa just under them.
