I am trying to find a replacement cylinder lock for my 2011 HHR, someone tried to get into my car and failed but left my lock destoyed

Do you have a problem with a GM parts department or a locksmith?

 

I did find one at the dealer, who said it comes in parts and would have to be programed, which a locksmith said he would be able to do it, does that sound about right ??

"programmed" is, I guess, the right word, but not what it sounds like. It is just setting the tumblers to match the key. A dealer could probably order one that is coded to your VIN already or Any locksmith should be able to get it and code it.

I am guessing you have a problem communicating with the parts people. I think you are talking about the lock cylinder only, that is #5 in the diagram. You do not need a matching key, unless you want to have 2 separate keys for the car, one for the ignition and one for the door.

The struck through price is the MSRP. I would figure 1 hour labor including coding.

Insurance is not paying? Either car insurance or homeowner/renter insurance usually covers that sort.

If it's just the lock cylinder then that's a mechanical part. No reason for it to need programming.
The new cylinder would just need the tumblers "set" to match the ignition key.

 

That makes alot of sense, I will order that part right away, Thanks for all your help
