Heated Mirrors

I know that heated mirrors have never been available as a factory HHR option. I have read on the forums about someone intending to install them and post a "how to" about it, but I can't find such a posting. I saw postings by people who bought aftermarket heating elements, but no one who actually completed the conversion. Could anyone who added aftermarket heated mirrors or heating elements please comment?

Well, I am one of the people who bought a set of aftermarket heating elements ($30 each) and bought a set of replacement mirrors with backing plate from GM ($25 each).

I got as far as removing the glass from the backing. Now I need to stick the elements onto the back of the mirrors, glue the backing plate on, and do the wiring. The plan is to get power from the rear defogger circuit, so the heated mirrors come on with the rear defogger (like those on my Suburban). The only thing to check first is the reserve amperage available from the rear defogger circuit (by measuring the actual current draw from the rear defogger and comparing it to the max current of the wiring and fuse). If all else fails, I would have a separate switch for the heated mirrors. This year I plan on finishing it during the summer and taking pictures for a how-to. I had planned to do it last year but I procrastinated until I ran out of warm weather.
